SEAN CHAN

Born in Singapore and proudly raised in Perth, Western Australia, Sean is a graduate of Interior Architecture from Curtin University. With a strong belief that designers bare the responsibility of shaping culture. He approaches new work with an open-minded sense of curiosity, focusing on creating designs that tell a story, and are deeply meaningful, down to the smallest details. Ultimately, aiming to create designs that add beauty and value to the world, forming a legacy of continued presence for following generations to experience.

Inspired by the Utopian visions of the future from the 20th Century this design uses the hopeful lens from the past to
challenge the current disenchantment of the future, it aims to evoke the feelings from those daring
visions of the past, helping to foster a sense of possibility in the space.&#38;nbsp; By using Bauhaus design princples of form, colour and material, it aims to ultimately revitalize the visionary energy of the past
imaginations of the future.

					A place in the Present where the Past and Future meet.

CURTIN UNIVERSITY BENTLEY CAMPUS

WORKPLACE&#38;nbsp;
2021


Inspired by the desire to make physical the idea
of a progressive workplace that is open to change and collaboration, The spaces
in the newly designed School of Design and Built Environment are intended to be
dynamic and give a sense of movement to create a kinetic energy that feeds into
the frenetic pace of the work environment.&#38;nbsp;


It seeks to
embolden its users to think freely and adapt (or change) the environment that
they work in, a juxtaposition that is supposed to be both challenge and
solace at once. Homage is paid to the old Curtin University Architecture
Building 201, incorporating leading lines and sharp edges reminiscent of its
brutality, transitioning to curved lines and softer materials to reflect a new
age and reflective of a workplace and culture that is ever evolving,
progressing, full of energy and life.

PRODUCT DESIGN
2022


Focusing on the idea that light is a tool for guidance, this
brand new lighting unit design aims to evoke the emotions felt by sailors lost
at sea during harsh storms and the relief they find when they spot a lighthouse
beam impose against the darkest of skies. 

	
					Various links back to the concept of a lighthouse such as the subtle use of
reflection internally is intended as an homage to how lighthouses originally operated. The lighting unit boasts a homogeneous and uniform exterior and features an operable element that aims
to invite interaction from the user giving both audible and tactile feedback creating a truly unique and intriguing
experience from this brand new lighting unit.
